What Do The Following X-ray Reports Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 22 May 2017
Question: Hi Doc,
I have under radius bone plating couple of years ago. I have visited a clinic near and got x-ray done to see how it looks after two years.
I still see a hollow scar ( kind of crack ) on the bone.
what does that indicate.
will it ever get filled ? What kind of food/supplements should be taken to cure it.
doctor has advised to undergo a surgery to get plate removed. How long it will take ( XXXXXXX time ) to heal the cut and how long will it take for the holes on bone to be filled naturally.

X-ray summary is below -
1.Status post surgery with plates and screus insitu for fracture lower end of radius.
2.Adequate calus at fracture site.
3. Rest of bone and joints normal.

Let me know, If required, I can upload photo copy of x-ray film and report.

Thanks,
XXXX

Brief Answer:
Xray report appears good. Please upload photo of Xray for further comments

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX

It will be very helpful if you could upload a photo of the Xray.

Usually there will be some unfilled holes in the plates but it is not necessary for them to be filled.

What's important is that your fracture showing healing signs as mentioned in the report as 'adequate callus'.

This means that the bone has probably healed by now and your Doctor wants to remove the plate and screws because later on in life it will be difficult to remove them because a lot of Bone will grow and cover the plate.

If you are able to do your daily activities and lifting weights, you have nothing to worry about any holes in the Xray. Regarding the crack or cut, I would like to see a photo of the Xray before commenting.

Food supplements you can take Tablet Shelcal CT which has Vitamin D3 and Calcium for daily oral intake. You can take it for a couple of months to strengthen your bones.

I hope I have answered your query.

I will be available to answer your follow up queries.

Regards,

Dr. Aashish Raghu
