Question: My husband was coughing hard and I was hitting him in back. He sat back then slumped over and started drooling . I was yelling at him and shaking him. He came to after maybe 5 seconds that I realised and said he'd just gone to sleep. Followed by dull head ache, I was really worried. Is this normal?

Brief Answer:
Not a normal situation, but there should be no damages.

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for using HCM.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Of course this is not a normal situation, being slumped after hard coughing is caused by temporary lack of oxygen and by temporary increased intracranial pressure due to Valsalva maneuver.

Since this situation lasted few seconds, there should be no serious consequences on your husband's health status.

Headache is understandable in this situation.

However, if this situation repeats, or headache is worsening, your husband should be evaluated by his primary care Doctor.

For the moment, I don't see any emergency.

Hope you found the answer helpful.
