Question: I have test results of a low calcium level of 8.2 and an elevated phosphatase level of 225. Any idea what the cause could be? The elevated phosaphates was found during a routine blood test for life insurance and the calcium was found when doing a follow up blood test to determine the cause of the elevated phosphates.

Brief Answer:
You may need estimation of ionized calcium level.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing to HCM

Your findings may suggest marginally low total calcium level. This much decreased calcium level is usually not concerning.
You may need estimation of ionized calcium level. It may be due to low albumin level.
Raised alkaline phosphatase may be due to many causes like bone, liver problem etc.
You may need clinical correlation and few more investigations.
You may need routine hemogram, random blood sugar, liver and renal function test, urine RE/ME,ultrasound of abdomen.

I had mono that turns into hepatitus in my early 20's. Could this be a result of that?
