What Do My Lab Test Results Indicate?

default
Posted on Mon, 25 Apr 2016
Question: Hi, I just got some tests back from an insurance exam. They denied the policy and cited these test results:
Age: 55, Female
BUILD: 5’ 5” and 276 pounds
BP average: 138/87
Cholesterol: 240
Alkaline Phosphatase: 112
Urine protein/creatinine ratio: 0.13

Just by looking at this information, what red flags do you see?
Thank you.

Brief Answer:
everything normal besides your weight...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

none of the tests you've mentioned seem like 'red flags' besides your weight. Your blood pressure is borderline normal, although it would be better if it were lower. Your cholesterol seems a little high but its interpretation depends on many factors which all constitute your cardiovascular risk and also the percentage of HDL, LDL and triglycerides that make up this value. For example with this set of values you would be OK: HDL=90, Trigl=150, LDL=120. The following set of values would be less favorable though: HDL=35, Trigl=125, LDL=180.

Your alkaline phosphatase (ALP) value of 112 is probably normal but it depends on the lab's normal range. Most labs consider normal values up to around 150-170. Your urine to creatinine ratio is OK.

I hope you find my comments helpful!
