What Do My Blood Sugar Levels Indicate?

Question: My wife is pregnant for 8 weeks now, recently we are doing regular sugar level check, her sugar in fasting is around 135 and in random check i.e. 2 hours after meal it is around 100.
Her HBA1C was around 6.4
After 75gm Glucose test her sugar count was 88.
However her father was diabetic.
Doctor have asked to go for Bigomet 500 mg, I was reading for the medicine, not very much convinced to ask her to take, can you suggest?

I have gone through your question and understand the concerns.
All the blood sugar reports are normal except the fasting blood sugar levels.
In this scenario, the fasting blood sugar report should be repeated after 8 hours of overnight fasting.
Metformin can be given in pregnancy, however it is not recommended unless the post meals sugar levels are high.
Moreover, the diagnosis needs to be confirmed before starting any drug.

Ok, so ideally Bigomet 500 mg shouldn't be given as if now, what is ideal fasting sugar level?

Thanks for the answers, with this limit of 95, it seems fasting is high.

What are next steps?

Should we consult another doctor other then regular one?
What are test to go for?
Should we wait for 11th week Sonography?
How to decrease level of sugar, any medicine that can be taken during pregnancy?
Bigomet 500 mg should be taken?

Hi dear,
She should get a repeat test of fasting blood sugar levels done.
If it is still higher than95, then diabetic diet should be followed.
Added sugars, bakery products, cold drinks, mangoes need to be avoided.
Insulin is advised on pregnancy if the blood sugar levels are not controlled with diet.
Metformin should be avoided as far as possible, as insulin is better than it.
Glyburide is the oral drug that can be given to decrease the blood sugar levels, however it is not superior than insulin.
I will suggest her to get the repeat sample as soon as possible and further treatment should be done accordingly.
