Posted on Sat, 7 Feb 2015
Question: My hiv results .. what does it mean

TeSt index interpretation

Hiv 0.32 cut off value
<0.90: NON REACTIVE
> 0.9 - <1.0 : BORDERLINE
>1.0 REACTIVE

COBAS e411 Roche Germany
method : elecsys HIV combi assay

Interpretation

Samples with a cutoff index <0.90 ARE NON REACTIVE IN THE ELECSYS HIV COMBI TEST. THESE SAMPLES ARE CONSIDERED NEGATIVE FOR HIV 1 -AG AND HIV1/2 SPECIFIC ANTIBODIES AND INITIALLY REACTIVE OR BORDERLINE SAMPLES GIVING CUTOFF INDEX VALUES OF >1.0 either of the redeterminations are considered repeatedly reactive
A negative test result does not completely rule out the possibility of an infection with hiv . Serum or plasma samples from the very eRleast phase or the late phase of hiv infection can occasionally yKeld negative findings. Yet unknown hiv variants can also lsad to a negative hiv findings . The presence of hiv antigen or antibodies to hiv is not a diagnosis of aids

Confirmatory tests include western blot and hiv rnA test

Brief Answer:
Your results for HIV testing is negative

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Your HIV test results show that you are negative as per the above test results.

Non reactive means negative.

It is important to know when you were possibly exposed to HIV. This is because HIV tests should be done and must be negative at 3 months and 6 months from date of exposure as per current guidelines before saying you are negative.

Please feel free to correct any oversight in my interpretation of your problems and discuss them in detail as per your requirements.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.

I got the tested for the below chance of exposure
My questions are below

I got a massage (her hands were rough) i got dry massage on my legs i had a scratch on my leg few days back due a to a mosquito bite . and got a oil massage on my body.
before she gave me body to body massage she wiped my private parts with wet towel.. she rubbed her breasts against my penis and she she used oil on my balls and my penis, I sucked her breasts
Not sure her vagina touched my penis, but I used my hand to ejaculate.
I have gone thru other cases . whereby if the massage oil is laced with hiv , transmission of hiv is not possible.. and where maybe the wet towel might have tainted blood or her vaginal cum . still hiv is not possible
now my questions are
1) her hands being rough and my scratch due to mosquito bite, which was few days old is it possible(i e if she is Hiv positive) that her blood would have come in contact with mine. again not sure if i was bleeding or if she was bleeding
2) i am paronid that while she was giving me massage on my back i heard a crack, (maybe loosing of the bones). but what if she used a injection with a needle and injected me with her hiv blood.(I am sure if that had happened I would have felt it)
Please reply from the above scenario is it possible that I might get hiv. I am feeling very tensed and vulnerable..
MY QUESTION

1) the test which I got done was 4th generation test. I have read 4th generation test I read are conclusive after 4 the week.
2) the test which I got done had a reading of 0.32 . What does it indicate?

Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

Please find answers to your questions below.
1) her hands being rough and my scratch due to mosquito bite, which was few days old is it possible(i e if she is Hiv positive) that her blood would have come in contact with mine. again not sure if i was bleeding or if she was bleeding

Mosquito bite cannot transmit HIV infections and Im sure you were not bleeding enough to cause the viruses to enter you.

2) i am paronid that while she was giving me massage on my back i heard a crack, (maybe loosing of the bones). but what if she used a injection with a needle and injected me with her hiv blood.(I am sure if that had happened I would have felt it)

Cracking can be due to bones and muscles stretching. If HIV infected blood is injected then you will feel pain of needle and this did not happen. Please do not be paranoid.

3) the test which I got done was 4th generation test. I have read 4th generation test I read are conclusive after 4 the week.

You have least chance of getting HIV from this massage. There are guidelines formulated by health authorities and one such famous authority is the Center for Disease Control CDC in USA. So if you have an HIV test with a negative result within 3 months of your last possible exposure to HIV, the CDC recommends that you be retested 3 months after that first screening test which is 6 months from date of unprotected sex. The 6 months test has accuracy of more than 99.5 percent.

4) the test which I got done had a reading of 0.32 . What does it indicate?

Your test result is negative.

Hope your query is answered.

Brief Answer:
UK guidelines say that testing at 3 months is required for 4th generation

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for writing back with an update.

1. The risk is low but for peace of mind you should follow guidelines in testing. This will help you to be certain that you do not have the infection. Therefore you can get tested again as per UK guidelines at 3 months.

2. The UK guidelines state the following with respect to 4th generation tests.

Patients should be offered a 4th generation laboratory HIV test and advised that a negative result at 4 weeks post exposure is very reassuring/highly likely to exclude HIV infection. An additional HIV test should be offered to all persons at 3 months (12 weeks) to definitively exclude HIV infection. Patients at lower risk may opt to wait until 3 months to avoid the need for HIV testing twice.

Therefore current guidelines suggest that a 3 months testing is required in all patients who have 4th generation test negative at 28 days just for confirmation.

Hope your query is answered.
