What Do Episodes Of Blankness In A Teenager Indicate?
Question: My 14 year old daughter has been having blank moments which include walking out in front of a car and also on her bike. She doesn't remember that she does it at the time, yet she can't stop herself. Any suggestions? She has also had panic attacks and anxiety of late. I do not want to put her on any medication.

Episodes of cut off from surrounding may be a manifestation of absence seizures.
At this age the diagnosis of juvenile myoclonic epilepsy(JME) is to be evaluated. In JME the child suffers from myoclonic jerks (mostly in morning), generalised tonic clonic seizures and absences.
You need to get her evaluated by a neurologist and undergo EEG(Sleep deprived).
The treatment will depend upon diagnosis.
The second possibility may be somnambulism if it occurs in sleep.
For anxiety and panic disorder she may be consulted to a neurologist or psychiatrist for treatment.
