What Do Elevated AST Levels Indicate?
Question: My Dr. did lab work on me and it came back that I had High AST

Another common cause is NON alcoholic fatty liver disease. This is the build up of fat in the liver that is not associated with alcohol use. It is related to diet, activity , weight.
If this is present that it could also contribute to the increase.
If the value of your AST is less than 3 times the upper limit of the normal range at your lab, then the statins can be continued. This is confirmed in an article in XXXXXXX association of family physicians.
In many cases, the increase in these values can resolve on their own. They do not necessarily indicate that the liver is in danger
Depending on your value (how high it is, not stated above), and your risk of heart disease or stroke, your doctor would decide the next course of action.

my AST is 37

This may be different for your lab so you can check to see its upper limit.
It should not be far from 40.
At 37, your value could only be slightly higher from the upper limit, if it is even above it at all.
