Question: hi doctor. my 2.5 year old girl is complaining of knee pain only in the right leg fpr the past 2 days now. yesterday she woke up in the middle of the night and cried constantly. we applied a little balm and massaged. but pain seemed to persist. there are no bruises or inflammation indicating she hit her leg or fell down. she finally slept after hours mostly out of exhaustion of crying all night.

Brief Answer:
Please get her clinically evaluated by orthopedician

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for asking on this platform

I have gone through the query and do understand your concern.
Pain in knee joint of one side is unusual in this age.
Although there is no sign of trauma or infection, still pain can be there due to unnoticed twist of knee joint (sprain oror infection (viral or bacterial) which has not manifested externally yet.
I would like to know if there is difficulty in walking too. As this would go more in favour of some underlying problem.
Sometimes pain can be due to any nonspecific reason and it improves itself within few days with symptomatic treatment like analgesics.
But as it is severe enough to disturb sleep and if there is difficulty in walking also, I would suggest you to consult an orthopedician for proper clinical evaluation to find out any underlying problem if it is there in its early stage.
I hope this helps.
Please let me know if you have any more questions.
Regards

Brief Answer:
Watch for improvement or deterioration

Detailed Answer:
Hi

Thanks for following up,

It's good to know that otherwise, she's is active and there is no problem in walking.

I won't get overly worried as this suggests that there is no significant problem. This pain should improve within 2-3 days with analgesics and massage only.

If you are finding any significant abnormality please consult an Orthopedician.

Wishing for your baby's good health.

Regards
