default
Posted on Tue, 17 Feb 2015
Question: I have always had "boil" or "cysts" like lumps on my inner thight by my genitals for as long as i can remember. I always have at least one. Its not ingrown hairs either. They are very very painful and stay for weeks at a time and scar. I have 2 right now. One on the left has a big hole you can litterally see into. It's very scary and i don't know what to do.

Brief Answer:
May be apocrine gland hyperplasia

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Also thanks for your elucidate history, but you have not mentioned the Gender, age, Visited Doctor , Medication history. Please give details as these details help me for the diagnosis.
Please also give information regarding:
-Since when have you started this problem ? Is it since Menarche (entering into adulthood) ?
Any fluctuations in the appearance, pain, redness, tenderness, size ?

As per the history you have provided, the condition looks to be skins response to hormonal changes that started long back but the skin could not get conditioned hence the response in the form of apocrine gland hyperplasia.

These have the classical history you have given, viz- lumps near genitals on inner thigh, at least one , like cysts or boil but not ingrown hair, as long as you remember, painful- stay for weeks and then scar -

Since this condition has not been understood well, there is no perfect treatment.
The best way is to consult a Surgeon so that a clinical evaluation can be done and if the area affected is small a surgery can be planned.

Till then you can have the following treatment :
Multivitamins- helps to rejuvenate the skin nicely.
Hot water compresses locally.
Reduction of the weight if you are obese.

I hope this answer helps you, Please give the feedback.

m a 23 year old female. I haven't been to the doctor because i just assumed they were boils or something like that. I also do not have a primary doctor right now and didn't know whether to go to a dermatologist or a family physician. I've had them for about 5 years I'd say. The past 2 years they have been much worse. Some come and go, stay a few weeks or months, then scar up. I've had one for going on 2 years and 3 months. It will swell up for a few weeks then go down but never fully flatten. When it's infected, its about the diameter or a quater and raised up a lot. Occasionally, clear and/or white milky liquid followed by some blood will discharge. But not every time it gets inflamed. When its big, its very hard to even walk from the constand rubbing. It has a lingering tingle sensation and is very painful.

I am 5'6 weighing about 180.

Thank you!

Brief Answer:
Dermatologist / Surgeon

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your feedback .
Your BMI is 29 , means you are on the border of overweight to obesity. Reducing your weight will certainly help you to have control of this problem.

Your history is suggestive of the condition already explained and the one for more than 2 years is an infected cyst, which I think should be removed.

I think the Dermatologist / Surgeon is the best option.
Please get evaluated for the diagnosis and possible surgical procedure you may need. Please discuss all the points noted by me with Him / Her and request for a permanent cure as this is a recurrent problem.

Please feel free to ask for more if you need to .
Note: For further inquiries on surgery procedure and its risks or complications book an appointment now
