What Do SGPT Level Of 52 And SGOT Level Of 30 Indicate?

Question: Hi! I am a 30 year old female over weight but dieting (26 lbs down) my latest blood work shows my alt sgpt levels at 52 and the sgot at 30. I have had a kidney infection for 3 months that nothing seems to be helping could this be affecting my liver also? I do not drink at all.

Hi XXXX, Welcome to HCM, with your raised liver enzymes, and being overweight, it is likely you are heading for a condition called metabolic syndrome which comprises of obesity especially abdominal, disturbed lipids, fatty liver, hypertension, Diabetes. It is great you are losing weight since it will prevent all these complications from happening. Yes the antibiotics could also be responsible for the disturbed liver functions.
I will advise the following--
Take a liver protective like Silymarin and Udihep.
Get a sonography of abdomen to check whether you have accumulated fat in the liver.
I have no experience with milk thistle.
