Brief Answer:
I still maintain what I mentioned before!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for this further inquiry.

There is no better way at knowing what would be friendly and what would not without trying it out personally. Give them a try and should you have issues after taking any new food type, label it as not friendly and try to keep away from it each time you are chanced.

I wish you well. I wouldn't feel bothered should you keep me posted as you work on establishing a food journal for yourself.

I hope this helps. Feel free to keep our discussions going on.

Thanks for getting back to me. went to a buffet today and sampled a few things. Did not get heartburn but nauseated. But I have been getting nauseated from time to time. If a food item didnt agree would i get nauseous or heartburn? is this the gastritis or esophagitis? I really dont think the pills are sinking in. still getting the chest pain and nauseated. Thanks again in advance

Brief Answer:
You are on the right drugs!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for reconnecting with me.

Nausea is not the principal symptom of heartburn. Nausea in most cases is psychological and unless there is heartburn, a doctor would not rush to reflux esophagitis as a possible explanation of nausea.

The inflammation of the esophagus would clear up all by itself. We don't prescribe anti inflammatory drugs for this condition. What we do is rather prevent the aggressor from coming in contact with the esophagus through a prescription of drugs that suppress the acid production.

Your condition has been well investigated and you are on the right medications. However, you still get too worried and stressed out. Stress in itself worsens reflux as it leads to excess acid production. You would need to relax over this, buy some time and evaluate at a later date. I don't expect this drug to have worked magic this soon.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Keep me updated as usual.

I feel really awful to say this. Back in January or so I wanted to lose some weight quick so I self induced vomit I didnt do it long and I know it was stupid to do, but at the time I wasnt thinking. I am thinking this might have caused my problem. I havent told my husband or anyone because of the stupidity of what i did for a bit I think this is why I get so frustrated that my chest still hurts and I want this to heal. I am telling you so I can get this off my shoulder. I just wish this inflammation would get better. I woke up with the pain again. Thanks for listening

thanks so much for your kind words. I needed to air that information out. I am trying. to stay calm and be patient. it is difficult at times, but I try. If it wasnt for the pain around my sternum, throughout my chest and back, I would feel better. The nausea comes and goes as well as the little lump i feel in my throat once in awhile. I just started the 40mg omeprazole on fri (even though I was on 20 mg prior since july) and the ranitidine as well on friday. I realize that isnt much time. in your opinion, when should I call Dr if I dont feel improvement in chest pain? Thanks so much again. I feel so much better being able to talk to someone on this

P.s. that pain by my sternum is constant and seems worse at times. Thanks again!

I know we talked about nausea but I seem to be getting nauseated more. Have any remedies for that? Don't know why I get nauseated maybe a symptom from gastritis/esophagitis? Thanks for listening!

Brief Answer:
Please, we should be patient about this!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for following up.

I understand your concerns and for sure we all wish to feel better as soon as possible. This is totally normal and but reasonable. Unfortunately, this is not always the case as we need time for treatments to be able to resolve our symptoms.

It is too early to evaluate this treatment. It is too early to change it. You had a detailed investigation and a diagnosis that explains these symptoms. The only difficulty is that we have not had enough time to see whether all put in place is producing the results we aim at. For this, we need patience.

Should we be too aggressive, we may end up doing what is not necessary and abandoning what would have worked before it does for something else that we are not sure of. I will not want to be caught in such a difficult situation.

Please, let's review this treatment after 2weeks. This is enough time to make reasonable conclusions and suggestions if need be.

I hope this helps. I wish you well.

Thank you so much for getting back to me and for your reassurance. you do have a lot of patience putting up with me and all my concerns and for that I thank you again. I do have another one-- today beside the pain behind sternum, my back really seemed soar as well as around my back neck. Felt like muscle problems or aches in the back. Even my right side seemed sore. Is this normal for this or is it getting worse? Thanks so much in advance!! You dont know how much i appreciate this.

HI and thanks for following up with me. Listening carefully to my clients too understand the exact problem in order to be able to help the address the concerns and relief their suffering is mandatory.

I am also getting concerned at this time. You have reported one symptom after another and am just wondering if there is something that am missing out on here. If you have more symptoms than it was at the beginning of treatment, then I will suggest that you return to your doctor for more evaluation and to make sure that what we are treating has not changed.

You have to do yourself some justice and that you know. I am beginning to have the feeling that there is something more to this disease condition that I have failed to pick up. Could you please, just tell me what your greatest fear is? I think I need to address it as your fears seem more disturbing than the actual symptoms.

I hope to hear from you. I wish you well.

Hi Dr. I am not sure what you mean by fear. If it is health wise or just my fear. My not health wise fear is my family find out how stupid I was. I dont want that to happen. That really bothers me. Healthwise, my fear is I dont want this to get worse. My neck and back are still sore. I am not sure what you mean when you said that there is something more to this disease condition that you failed to pick up. I realize I am thinking about this too much, but this is really bothering me. I have been sleeping on 4 pillows on my left side Dont know if that would cause right side neck soreness. My right side feels sore--maybe from inflammation? I would think the inflammation would be going down. I am not sure if these are the answers you were looking for. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks so much

PS. Still getting some pain behind sternum too

Would putting ice pack on sternum pain help inflammation?

Brief Answer:
Please, calm down and be relaxed!

Detailed Answer:

Hi and thanks for this follow up.

I have read through and this is exactly what I was looking for. This component of you believing you are the cause of your disease condition. This is not right and this is not he way too go. Nothing say for sure that this is the cause. The many patients I see with this condition never in anyway tried such acts. This means that independent of this act, persons would still suffer from this condition.

Unless you get over this feeling, you would not recover. Remember stress in itself causes increased acid secretions and this would worsen your symptoms. Why do you sleep with as many pillows like you mentioned? The essence during sleep is to adopt a comfortable position. If this pain started after doing so, then that could be the cause. I cannot say it enough but you are worried enough to be more sick that the actual ill health condition you are being treated for right now.

Your family must be very caring. I am sure no one would shout at you even if they knew you tried something out of the usual. Talk to them and you would realize we have all done some unusual things at least once in our lives. I have done some as well.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. What happened cannot be changed, what you can change is how much influence you allow this to play on you right now. Choose not to deal with that.

Thank you so much for your encouraging words. I know I am going overboard on my thinking process. Like you once said, dont dwell on what I did, but focus on now. The past is past and its going to get fixed now.
I think with the aches I am getting in my sternum and muscle aches around my back and my side, I just get paranoid. I am thinking this is from the inflammation and I keep thinking maybe its getting worse. The meds I am on, will not make it worse and I have to get that through my head--right??
I read somewhere that you have to sleep with a wedge or lift your bed up That is why I sleep with all those pillows. Is that really the case?
You have been my rock through this. You dont realize how much I appreciate this. As you know, I am 65 years old and I guess I just want to fix this now. I have been eating good. Sometimes I do get a terrible pain by my sternum and chest and that is what upsets me. not all the time, just some of the time. Then I start to think its getting worse.
Dr., like I said, you are my rock through this and I so much appreciate it so much!

PS. Like I said, I have been eating good but lost a few pounds. Probably because I am not eating the fried foods and deserts I love so much. XXXXXXX

Or could I eat fried foods and deserts with this. I just don't want to make it worse. Thanks Dr.

I have degenerative disc disease in my lower back. I used to take anti-inflammatory pills to help with pain if I had pain. I know I cant take them now. What can I take?---thanks again

Can corticosteriods be used in my case to reduce inflammation? Thanks again!

I understand how difficult a healing process can be and the more reason why supporting you is a big component throughout the treatment. You can always count on me. Reading through these lines tell me that you are becoming more positive and letting some of these disturbing thoughts go away. I will encourage you to keep doing so.

As I said before, try these stuffs. If the cause no problems, there is no point in getting afraid fro eating them. How your system responds to them is more important than any dietary speculations I can make or inferences drawn from other persons with similar illness or disease condition.

Not all anti-inflammatory medications would be friendly to you at this time. However, there are drugs that can do the same job and not affect the stomach. Talk to your doctor and ask about these drugs. He should be able to help provide a prescription if needed..

Steroids would not be a good option as they are aggressive to the stomach lining.
I wish you well. Stay well. Stay connected and know am happier discussing more with you if you so desire.

Hi Dr and thanks for getting back to me. Yes, the healing process is very difficult. I am trying to stay positive eventhough I felt nauseated today and had the pain behind sternum and back. It just gets frustrating because it doesnt seem to be getting better. I would have thought I would have had some kind of improvement from the meds at this point. What exactly does acute esophagitis mean? Does acute mean sudden or severe in this case? If it means sudden, wont it go away sudden? (wishful thinking) Also, I got my mri back on my back and it mentioned cystic lesion on right lobe of liver. I have no clue what that means. I probably will call to schedule ultrasound. I hope that isnt anything.
Thanks again Dr for being here for me. I am trying not to let this get the best of me. p.s. do i need to sleep on 4 pillows?

Brief Answer

Detailed Answer:
Hi again,

Acute means sudden and esophagitis means inflammation in the esophagus.

Sudden onset doesnt mean it can go away suddenly without medication.

Cystic liver in the liver could be a complication of old live infections or damages due to other causes. This may not cause any problem unless its too big.

Its better you sleep inclined with four pillows or so.
