Swelling of the feet can be due to:-
(1) kidney disease
(2) Liver disease
(3) Heart disease
(4) Venous disease (varicose veins) of the legs
(5) Infection
(6) Trauma
(7) Side effect of medication eg: Amlodipine; blood pressure medication causes swelling to occur.

Varicose veins are usually easily seen. Persons with heart disease normally have a history of problems with blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, smoking etc.

Chest pain, increased heart rate and shortness of breath may also be present.

Blood tests can check for infection, liver or kidney disease. If the swelling continues, then it would be best to be assessed. Treatment depends on the cause found.
