What Could Cause Stool To Be Greasy Along With Oily Discharge?

default
Posted on Fri, 1 Apr 2022
Question: Hi. I just went to the bathroom and my bowel movement was fairly solid, but somewhat greasy. There was also orange oil drops in the toilet. What could cause this?

I returned to the bathroom a bit later and the stool was still greasy, but no orange oil drops.

Brief Answer:
It is steatorrhea.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

You are having a condition known as “steatorrhea” which is nothing but fatty stool.
Most probable cause is malabsorption or due to some foods. If the symptoms persist for long we have to look for conditions like pancreatic insufficiency or celiac disease, which are very unlikely in your case.
Some foods like certain fishes and drugs like statins can cause this symptom. You can try alternatives in case you are on it.
As of now you can take lactobacillus supplements like “vizylac” and include more fiber rich foods in your diet.
Generally it will settle by it own in few days. If symptoms persist for long, you can consult a gastroenterologist and get evaluated.

Wishing you good health.
Thanks
