Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Welcome on HCM!

Regarding your concern, I would like to explain that limbs swelling may be caused by several causes:

1) the first thought when in front of such a clinical scenario comes about heart failure, a condition when the cardiovascular system (heart and blood vessels) fails to maintain an appropriate blood circulation status.

The above health condition is characterized by weakness, easy fatigue on exertion and continuous or episodic dyspnea.

Several reasons may stay behind heart failure, but a careful physical exam coupled with:

- complete blood count,
- resting ECG,
- chest X ray study,
- cardiac ultrasound,
- cardiac enzymes (CK-MB, Troponin),
- fasting blood glucose,
- thyroid hormones level,

would provide a valuable clue to arrive to the exact underlying cause.

2) Other reasons to mention are renal and/or liver dysfunction, which could be investigated by the underlying renal and liver function tests.

3) In addition, abnormalities of systemic venous system may play a role, hence a careful medical evaluation could be required in this regard.

You should discuss with your attending doctor on the above mentioned issues.

Hope to have been helpful to you!

In case of any further questions, feel free to ask me again.

Kind regards,

Dr. Iliri
