Question: While working in the yard I bent over & this yellowish fluid dripped from my nose. I have had a cold, but mostly over it now. Using Nasacort nightly & also Zyrtex nightly.

Brief Answer:
This is common. You can get the fluid checked if this happened again.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

1. This yellowish fluid that dripped out from the nose after bending will be accumulated nasal secretions from a sinus.

2. You can get this nasal discharge examined if it happens again. If this is one sided and thin, collect it on a clean cotton handkerchief. Let it dry and check if the handkerchief stiffens. If this is indeed nasal secretion, it will contain mucus which will cause the handkerchief to stiffen on drying.

3. If the handkerchief remains soft, get the secretions checked for CSF (cerebrospinal fluid). This is rare but must be ruled out.

4. The yellow colour is derived from dead white blood cells. Infection and allergy should be ruled out.

5. Add a mucolytic medication and steam inhalation.

6. If this discharge persists, a Sinus X-ray or CT Scan should be done.

I hope that I have answered your query. If you have any more questions I will be available to answer them.

Regards.
