What Causes Yellow Discoloration Above Right Eye?

default
Posted on Fri, 2 Jan 2015
Question: I have noticed years ago (may be 10 yrs ago) a yellowish discolouration above my right eye, in the eye lid close to the corner, the side beside my nose. I thought I might have caught my skin when I tried to pluck an invisible coloured eye brow hair and that was a scar. I have no memory such an incident. But last night when I was taking off eye makeup (I don't usually wear makeup) I noticed that the scar has increased to about three times the size. It is like three cicles of discolouration beside each other. And there is a smaller circlar patch of yellowy discolouration on the left eye too in the same place. I had my liver tested recently as I am taking nail fugus medication. Any idea whay could be causing the discolouration. It is becoming unsightly but it is not causing any pain. I am in my mid fourthies so maybe it is old age spots. Thanks.

I said it was yellowish but it is skin colour. The skin around it is darker and that part is light normal skin colour like my hands which makes it stand out. It is also a little bulgy.

Brief Answer:
It can be Xanthelesma.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic.

I reviewed your history.
It seems from the history that you are having yellowish discoloration of skin of eyelid above the eyes near the corner towards nose.
This can be a xanthelema lesion.
This is usually not harmful but can be removed for cosmetic purposes. This requires evaluation for lips profile as hypercholsterolemia is usually associated with it.

If possible do send a photo of the affected eye so that I can confirm the diagnosis and advice you more accurately.

Hope this is helpful to you.

Do write back to me for further questions.

Thank you
