Brief Answer:
Please get yourselves evaluated

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome to HCM. I have gone through the question and understand your concerns.

Your symptoms of leg pain and fatigue is not specific for any particular disease. You need to get your blood tests done to see if you have any disease that needs treatment.

The usual tests that we do are compete blood count ( to look for anemia), thyroid function tests, CPK, calcium profile, electrolytes, vitamin D and B12, lipid profile, liver and kidney function tests etc.

Your fasting sugars is high, especially at your age. Normal fasting sugars is less than 100 mg/ dl. Please do an HbA1c to see if you have diabetes or ore diabetes.

Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you

I recently got the HbA1c tested and the result was 6.96. My doctor said it was pre-diabetes and suggested that I start on Metformin. Before I do so, I wanted to check if:
1. I should start on the tablet?
2. What are the long term side effects of this medicine?
3. Does it develop into a dependency?

Brief Answer:
Diabetes, start On Metformin

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Wcome back.

HbA1c of 6.9 is not pre diabetes - it is diabetes. ( HbA1c 5.7-6.4 is prediabetes and over and above 6.5 is diabetes)

1. You should start on medications after a trial of diet and exercise for 3 months. It is better to start medications early in diabetes.

2. Metformin is a relatively safe drug. Long term complications are B12 vitamin deficiency, gastritis, and very rarely lactic acidosis (increased acid level in blood)

3. It won't cause dependency.

Thank you very much doctor. Just one last thing. Do you think the feeling of tiredness could be related to diabetes?

Thanks

Brief Answer:
It could be due to that

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Welcome back.

Tiredness could be due to diabetes - ( due to fluctuating blood levels) or due to vitamin deficiencies if you are on strict diet restrictions for diabetes.

Wishing you good health
