Question: I recently ate banana 3 days ago and felt the urge to vomit after 2 minutes. It really felt bad and I had to vomit after.

Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

As the time interval is long in between the two episodes of vomiting so the problem seems to be related to the food item/items that you ingested. There are a number of causes of vomiting and nausea. Most likely motion sickness, Gastritis and GERD are the likely cause. For the time being , symptomatic treatment can be resorted to including antiemetic like metoclopramide in combination with PPIs like esomeprazole. If the episodes recur or persist then further workup can be advised. Try to avoid both these fruits that were associated with vomiting for the next few days.

I don't feel any symptoms associated with Gerd or gastritis. I don't have any abdominal pain nor gas and I only felt the urge of vommiting right after I ate the banana and orange. I ate good within the last 3 days and never had any discomfort nor urge to vomit, only when I ate the banana and orange. Is there more of a specific cause to this besides what you mentioned?

Hello again.

Though one can have allergic responses to a number of foods. However, if there was no preceding history then its more unlikely that there was sudden development of allergic response to bananas and oranges.

There is no such specific condition that could explain the symptoms in relation to these food products.

The better option would be to exclude them for a few days from diet to see for improvement and gradually reintroducing them into det.

Could it be because of potassium or acid? Or maybe fructose intolerance or maybe I have something going on with my kidney?

Hello again.

There are a lot of causes for vomiting , and deciding which can be the cause for it depends on the overall preaentation , assosiated signs and symptoms like pain in abdomen , constipation , diarrhea etc. Excessive eating , emotional stress, Gastroenteritis, food poisoning , gastitis, peptic ulcer disease, GERD, acute cholicystitis, acute pancreatitis, gastroparesis or slow stomach emptying, excessive alcohol or toxins ingestion, intestinal obstruction, pyloric stenosis, concussion or brain injury etc.
If your symtoms doesnt relieve and to be cosistent then you need to be investigated for that. For now you can benefit from PPIs, prokinetics and antiemetics.

Fructose intolerance, Renal dysfunction , Electrolyte imbalance and acidosis are lower down the list. Basic metabolic panel can reveal/ rule out most of the above.

Hope it helps
Thanks.
