default
Posted on Tue, 8 Nov 2016
Question: my two year old grandson began throwing up last Wednesday and crying with abdominal pain. they checked his urine and it was fine, the Er did an ultasound and xray of abdomen. He has been running fever on off, last night it was 101. He has not eaten since he started throwing up, and yesterday he passed 3 runny bright green stools ( which as the mother of nine, i have never seen). they think his stomach pain is due to inflammation from throwing up. He gets very upset when you change his diaper and start cleaning his private area, he cries no, no, no. we put in another call to pediatrician but have not heard anything. the strange stools , fever, and no tolerance for food has us worried.

Brief Answer:
If e can’t keep anything down, then he needs fluids parenterally!

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

The symptoms seem suggestive f=of a possible viral cause of gastroenteritis. The most feared complication is dehydration. If your grandson is unable to keep anything down for the past several days then he would get dehydrated. I will suggest that you take him back to the hospital for fluids to be administered intravenously. Normally, the child should take at minimum 5-10ml/kg of oral rehydration solution after each watery stool or vomiting.

I hope this is guiding enough. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
