What Causes Visible Brown Particles After Urination?

default
Posted on Thu, 29 Oct 2015
Question: When I wipe after urinating there are little brown specs on the toilet paper--even if I've recently showered. I thought it might be yeast infection but I've done an over the counter treatment and this has not gone away.

Brief Answer:
Could be due to UTI.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for your query ,based on the facts that you have posted it appears that mostly you have UTI.

I shall be happy if you can post me few more details to help me in making comments on your problem.
1) Do you have any urinary symptoms like frequency, burning etc ?
2) Do you have itching of the genitals?

Please get your routine urine test and urine culture done to find out the organisms causing this infection and antibiotics to which they are sensitive to.

Please take broad spectrum antibiotics like Cefixime along with urinary antiseptic like Nitrofurantoin twice daily and urine alkalizer thrice daily .Later on switch on to appropriate antibiotics as per culture report.

Get the prescription of medicines from your family Physician.

Ensure to drink more water .To keep your urine dilute This will help to control dysuria.

Hope I have answered your query ,please feel free to ask if you have more questions ,I shall be happy to help you
Thanks and Regards.

Many years ago I had a UTI. I don't remember having specs on the toilet paper and if it is a UTI I don't have the need or sensation to frequently urinate. There is no burning when I go to the bathroom just this specaled waste on the toilet paper. Is the waste on the paper itself a symptom of a UTI? Can you have a UTI without the other symptoms? (frequent need to go to the bathroom, burning sensation urinating etc.)? And to answer your question outside of the specs, I have a mild intermittent itch that is mostly aggravated when I wipe or with a hot shower. Other than that no smell or other discharge. Thank you for your assistance.

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX

I didn't know what the turn around was for answers to questions-- but I wanted to make sure you got my follow up email as I hadn't heard back and the initial response came within an hour (again not sure what the standard or what the expectation should be).

Thanks again

Brief Answer:
Did not receive your earlier communication may be due to technical error.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for writing again and sorry for delay in response from our end . This has happened because of time difference of 12 hours and may be due to technical errors

The specs that you have noticed in, are mostly a clump of dis-squamated epithelial lining of bladder mucosa which result from chronic irritation of the mucus membrane of the bladder .This irritation in most of the cases does not signify UTI except mild discomfort in lower abdomen of which patient even is not aware of.

Our primary aim is to rule out active infection by doing urine culture .

As regards itching around genitals Please consult qualified Gynecologist for clinical and vaginal examination in person to help in diagnosis precisely and take further treatment .

Thanks and Regards.

I understand about the time difference thank you for explaining delay. While I have recently become sexually active again it's only been two occassions so far. So I'm not sure what constitutes chronic or if something else would be an irritent, as outside of this I am doing nothing new. Prior to becoming sexually active again I've had no issues in this area for years (i.e. UTI, Yeast Infection). Actually, the itching has seized since having gone through the yeast infection treatment. As I'm reading it your two responses contradict each other so I'm a bit lost now. Is it a possibility that it is a UTI or is it not. While I was waiting I did see a post and reply with a person with almost, if not, exactly the same symptoms and it was suggested it might be a "asymptomatic UTI " to be treated with and acid balance cleanser/wash...what do you think? The simplest and clearest as possible response really helps. Thanks again Dr. XXXXXXX

I'm sorry and that's ceased not "seized". Thank you

Brief Answer:
Routine urine test will give some idea about UTI.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for follow up.

The white specs taht yu have could be due to desquamated epithelial tissue as I have mentioned in my reply earlier or due to yeast infection ..

The routine urine test will give idea of UTI so that we can proceed further for culture if required .I have stated earlier that the specs are due to irritation of bladder mucosa and it is not necessarily due to UTI but can be due to what is called as abacterial cystitis..

The yeast infection can be confirmed by doing a swab test of a discharge or spec.

Please get your Blood sugar test done to rule out UTI.

Hope you have not missunderstood me .Thanks and Regards.
