What Causes Urethral Inflammation And Red Eyes?

default
Posted on Fri, 17 Jun 2016
Question: I feel pain during urination. I can see that my penis is fine( not changed colour or some strange liquid).
Since 2 days ago my eyes become really red with some tears. I fell a bit weak and my eyes are in red colour.
I'm traveling in China and communication is extremely hard here. I want to know if the inflammation of the urethra can be associated with red yes because I'm very worry now.

Hello and Welcome

I appreciate your concern

Reactive arthritis also known as Reiter syndrome, is an autoimmune condition appearing in response to an infection that includes the two components of urethritis and conjunctivitis which you described. The urethritis in Reiter is non infectious and the condition can be accompanied by mild to moderate fever. The treatment mainly involves treating the underlying infectious process, controlling the inflammation with NSAIDs and corticosteroids based on severity. These symptoms can also be isolated processes. Urine routine examination and culture sensitivity testing can be advised. If there is history of unprotected unsafe sex practices then an STD panel can also be considered by your doctor. Urine alkalinization and adequate fluid intake should be encouraged in the meanwhile.

Wishing you best of health

Thanks

Thanks for your answer. Do you think 500mg of ciproflaxacin per day can reasonable treatement ? I was visited from a doctor yesterday in hk and i' m waiting for the tests result ready in 4 days. Today i am in china and my eyes are extremely red. Now i have to take a decision, going to the chinese (terrible) hospital or stay calm and go ahead with the anthibiotic treatment. I am just worry that waiting 3 days more might change in worst phisical conditiion . What do you suggest ? Do i get an adeguate cure with this medicine for the next 4 days?

Hello again.

Yes, ciprofloxacin has good gram negative coverage and is an acceptable choice in the absence of any culture results. The antibiotics can be changed according to the availability of the culture reports. You should continue the antibiotic for now. If the condition persists or worsens in the next 48 hours then you should go to the hospital.

Dear Dr XXXXXXX

This is the 4th day with ciproflocaxin without a better result. I still feel pain when I pee but I don't have other fluid discarge. Right now my eye are still very red and pumped. I feel much more uncomfortable now with my eyes than before. I went to the chinese hospital checking my eyes and gave me some drops. The lab results will be ready next week. I need to take an action because i feel that this abtibiotic is not working well on me. What is other alternative antibiotic? I would like to find a more " aggressive" antibiotic against this infection.
Thanks for your advice

Hello again

Changing the antibiotic without culture evidence is usually not a good idea. The culture results are usually available after 24 to 48 hours.

enoxacin sesquihydrate is a good gram negative cover antibiotic that works well in UTIs. You may discuss this option with your doctor.
