What Causes Unusual Bowel Movements And Green Stool?

default
Posted on Tue, 30 Jun 2015
Question: I was on a lonzenge of Clotrimazole, for thrush, for 14 days, 5 per day. Just completd this past Saturday, near the end of the therapy I started having unusual bowel movements , in that they were green in color. I do eat a lot of salad, spinach, and XXXXXXX etc, but i am wondering if the Clotrimazole, had an effect on the color of my stool? I am still having green bm's and I have been off the meds for over 48 hours, my bowels are not loose, just an unusual color for me. would the side effects of the Clotrimazole linger for a few days after? My stomach is still a little upset as well. My bowl movements were perfectly normal before taking the Clotrimazole, ugh

Brief Answer:
Not due to clotrimazole

Detailed Answer:
Hi there,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
No, clotrimazole does not have any effect on the color of the stool.

The green color of stool is either due to the type of food you take or due to rapid movement of gut with bile which in turn could occur due to infection.

Since your stools are not loose, the second cause is unlikely. But you can confirm it with a stool analysis.

So the most likely cause is the type of food you take causing the green color of the stool. Spinach is known to cause it.

And so clotrimazole is not the cause.

I hope that answers your query.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
