What Causes Unbearable Headache And Pain Behind Both Eyes?

default
Posted on Tue, 11 Nov 2014
Question: Hi,
I have been waking up every night for the last week or so with an almost unbearable, throbbing, terrible headache, pain behind both of my eyes where I can barely function and nothing seems to help. I have never experienced headaches like this other than the headache you can get after anesthesia - yet, this feels much worse.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Brief Answer:
Prevention

Detailed Answer:
Prevention is the key to treating painful headaches. There is no way to know over the internet what the cause of nightime headache is but the usual causes are neck pain, untreated obstructive sleep apnea, and cluster headache.

The treatment will ultimately be based on which one of these causes is untreated. In the meantime combine Tylenol and ibuprofen before bed to try to prevent the headache. You should see a neurologist to try to determine the underlying cause.
