What Causes Twitching Of Eyes And Heart Palpitations?

default
Posted on Mon, 6 Jul 2015
Question: After several hours of my one eye twitching constantly, and heart palpitations, I had what seems to be a 'ocular migraine' - that is, seeing flashing semi-circles of coloured lights. The zig-zags of lights went from a tight semi-circle to a larger one and disappeared after about 20 minutes. This was occurring in both eyes. I've had this once before - neither time did I get a headache, but I've had 2 bad migraine headaches in my lifetime, with no aura...I am 75 years old. I am just wondering if this sounds like it should be checked out for anything serious or it's most likely a benign migraine. Thank you for your reply.

Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I will be answering your question.

I reviewed your history.
These symptoms indicate typical attack of migraine. Hence no need to be worried about any serious problem. This needs to be treated for migraine.
If these episodes are recurrent you need to take prophylactic treatment with drugs like Flunarizine or Propranolol.

Hence I advice you to consult your doctor for prescription of drugs for treatment of migraine.

Hope this information is helpful to you. Do write back to me for further questions.

Thank you

I had forgotten to mention that I have a deformed aortic valve that causes a slight murmur. Would this be associated with the palpitations I get frequently and/or be connected with the aura? I had the palpitations the day I had the recent aura.
