Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Ringing in the ears/tinnitus has different possible causes. Some causes are treatable but unfortunately , there are some that are not.

You would need to be assessed to determine your cause to see if the ringing can be treated and cured.

Treatable causes include: (1) excess wax in the ears
(2)infection of the ears
(3)meniere's disease- in this condition there would also be vertigo and hearing loss in most cases
(4)sinusitis
(5)trauma
(6)presence of a mass
(7)anemia- low red cell mass
(8)thyroid disease

Other causes include: (1)due to age related hearing loss
(2)damage to the ear due to prolonged exposure to loud noises
(3)side effect of medications such as lasix, aspirin, NSAIDs(ibuprofen, cataflam, naproxen etc)

These are some of the more common causes but to determine which is the cause for you, it would be best to see an ENT specialist. Your GP can refer you.

If your GP can find a treatable cause when you are seen then he or she may not need to refer you.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
