Question: I awoke with my left forefinger throbbing with pain, might this be related to some form of gout or arthritis, which I have never had in my life, and I am eighty three years..? My email address is YYYY@YYYY

The throbbing in the forefinger can be due to arthritis or tendon inflammation- tendonitis. This is not likely to be Gout. If this has happened for the first time then rest and mild pain killers can help in reducing the discomfort. Give rest to the finger. You can apply a local analgesic gel after a hot compress. The pain is likely to subside in a week. In case it persists then do consult an orthopedician for a proper examination.
