Brief Answer:
Start her on antibiotics orally

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to the HCM

I understand your concerns but don't worry. The best way to treat a thigh abscess is by good and regular antiseptic local dressings along with oral antibiotics.

So, you may use savlon followed by neosporin powder/fusidic acid ointment. You may take the help of your doctor If the wound is deep. Start your baby on oral antibiotics (co-amoxiclav) for at least 1 week. Keep the baby well hydrated by regular feeds. You may start him on complementary feeds for complete nutrition.

Hopefully it will be useful. I would be happy to help you in any further questions.
Take care

Brief Answer:
MRI is not a must

Detailed Answer:
Hi
The most likely reason for these symptoms is persistent infection in the soft tissues. If the baby is not having any systemic symptoms such as fever, lethargy, poor feeding etc, you may start her on treatment I suggested. There is no need for MRI. A local swab culture and sensitivity test and X Ray will be more useful.

If the wound doesn't respond, it continues to discharge even after1 week of proper dressing and oral antibiotics, then go for proper clinical examination by pediatric surgeon. A complete incision and drainage might be required under anaesthesia along with intravenous antibiotics.

You may post the reports and pictures for my reference.
