What Causes Temporary Loss In Vision?

default
Posted on Fri, 7 Nov 2014
Question: My son is 26 years old and periodically loses sight in his left eye. This is accompanied by headache, nausea, and heart palpitations. He is not taking pharmaceuticals, but does binge drink occasionally. He also works on an oil rig but is mainly in the office areas. He complains that the blood vessels in his temples and neck regions often bulge in small circular patterns but usually goes away in a couple of days. His neck is sore and he feels that he has something pressing against his esophagus. He does work 14 days straight; however from appearances, he is excellent physical health, exercises, and has little to no body fat.

Brief Answer:
It seems like migraine.

Detailed Answer:
Hello Sir
Welcome to health care magic.

I am Dr. Dadapeer K, an ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.

I reviewed your history.
It seems from the history that your 26 years old son is having recurrent episodes of loss of sight in one eye followed by nausea, headache, palpitations....
These symptoms indicate recurrent episodes of migraine.
This requires treatment with anti migraine drugs in the acute episodes. Since he is having recurring episodes he requires prophylactic drugs in the form of beta blockers or flunarizine also.
Hence I advice you to consult your physician doctor for examination for confirmation of diagnosis and treatment.

The other causes that need to be considered other than migraine are transient ischemia caused by vascular causes like arteritis. However these are relatively rare.

Hope the information is helpful to you. Do write back to me for further questions.

Thank you
With regards
