What Causes Swollen Lymph Nodes?

default
Posted on Tue, 9 Sep 2014
Question: Hi there, I recently (over three weeks ago)came out in two spots both near my collarbone, they were itchy but have since gone down and now are just two red marks, I also have swollen lymph nodes in my left supraclavicular and cervical area (ultrasound said 15mm in size). These were found in a recent ultrasound, I can feel the nodes in my left supraclavicular.
My Dr has said that I need to have more blood tests, so far the only abnormality in my blood results have been a higher than normal white blood cell count. Is there anything else I should be requesting ?? My only sympton otherwise is I am very fatigued

Brief Answer:
Need FNAC.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Lymph nodes in the neck are enlarged due to simple infection, Tuberculosis or Cancer etc.
As the white blood cells are more, they are enlarged due to bacterial infection.
As the lymph node enlargement is proceeded by the two spots over collar bone most likely due to infection .Hence you are fatigued.
You still need investigation like FNAC ( FINE Needle aspiration Cytology ). With this, the exact nature of the disease is known.
But, FNAC has to be done for completion and for proper diagnosis.
Nothing to worry.
I prescribe Antibiotics like Cefuroxime and Clindamycin and anti inflammatory tablets to my patients with similar complaints. Discuss about this your doctor.
It will come down .
If you have any queries, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.

Thank you Dr. I will await my results this week from this blood test, This is the third lot of blood tests that my Dr has sent me on now since I first presented (initially was due to being very dizzy), would a bacteria infection show up on blood tests ? or should it have showed up already in the last two that I have had ?
Thank you for your assistance. XXXXXXX
