Brief Answer:
Congestive Heart Failure...
Detailed Answer:
Hi.
I have gone through your query and I understand your concerns.
Basing on your father's medical history and on his age I think that he suffers from Congestive Heart Failure(CHF).
Congestive heart failure occurs when the heart is unable to provide sufficient pump action to maintain blood flow that the body needs.
The swellings in ankles are caused by Congestive heart failure.
To get the right treatment you should confirm that your father suffers from CHF.
To do that your father needs the following tests:
1. Echocardiography(ultrasound).
2. Pulmonary X-ray.
3. Electrocardiogram(ECG).
4. Blood test including electrolytes(sodium and potassium).
5. Liver function test.
6. Urine test.
The above tests will confirm the diagnosis.
The results will help your doctor in determining the treatment.
Contact a cardiologist.
Ask me for anything unclear.
Regards.
Dr. Behar.
