What Causes Swelling In The Groin Area Post An Umbilical Hernia Surgery?

default
Posted on Sat, 11 Nov 2017
Question: I had an umbilical hernia 10 days ago which will eventually require surgery (fat, not intestine). No pain or discoloring, but likely incarcerated so surgery will happen. Now, as of yesterday, there is suddenly swelling much lower, in the groin area. Both sides equally. Could this be another hernia, symptom of the original hernia or something else (infection, swollen lymphs, prostate cancer). It was a very fast onset, not gradual. I have also recently changed my diet drastically as a result of the hernia and lost 5 pounds already. Perhaps the body is just adjusting? Thanks.I just saw that jock itch can cause swollen lymph nodes. Just throwing that out there in case that might be the cause. The jock itch is relatively severe and has gotten worse recently. Been sporadically treating with over-the-counter powder but will start using that more consistently.

Brief Answer:
Hernia has an impulse on coughing and is reducible...

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.

Certainly yes, Jock's itch can cause sudden development of inguinal lymph nodes if there is infection in the affected skin. Such nodes are constant meaning do not reduce in size on pressure or do not increase on coughing, may be tender, skin may be reddened. Needs antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medications.

Hernia in both groin can be a possibility and the classical finding is impulse on coughing that is enlarges on coughing is reducible. Please check yourself and get confirmed by your Doctor/Surgeon.

Get an opinion of a Dermatologist for Jock's itch - use loose clothes, have cleaning with plain water at least 2 times in a day to wash of the retained sweat and skin products, avoid hot and humid air.

Umbilical hernia may need surgery as per the opinion of your Surgeon.

I hope this answers your query and helps further.
