What Causes Sustained Fever In Infants Even After Taking Medicines?
Question: Hi My baby boy has completed 50 days today. He got fever today & fever was @ 100 after giving fevago medicine fever went to 101 & then it got normal if a hour. After consulting a doctor. Doctor prescriber fevgo for fever & told there is some blockage in his nose and prescriber sporidex drops & no cold. Now again he is getting fever. kindly suggest

I am sorry to hear that your son is sick. Such symptoms are usually caused due to certain viral infections. If fever is present, it needs to be controlled by the use of fevago which contains paracetamol, and tepid sponging. You can also give Meftal P which is more effective than fevago in reducing temperature. The mininum interval between doses for fevago is 3-4 hours and for meftal p it is 6 hours (between the doses of the same medicine, not each other). But it is a prescription medication and you might need to get it prescribed by your doctor. Antibiotics are ineffective in the treatment of viral infections. However, many doctors prefer to prescribe antibiotics to manage superadded bacterial infections, if any. Sporidex is an antibiotic and can be given. Irrespective of the use of antibiotics, such infections may last for 5-10 days. Saline nasal drops like Nasoclear may be given in case of nasal block. Giving steam inhalation or use of humidifiers should be helpful by helping in diluting the cough. Just sit with the baby on your lap and place the source of steam before you. The water vapour will be in the air and automatically the child will breathe it in. No-cold can be given. I would suggest adding Relent Syr. 2.5 ml once daily as it contains a mucolytic along with an antiallergic and can be given. I would not suggest any other medication.
Please be patient. But if the child grows lethargic or develops wheezing, you would have to take her to a pediatrician without delay. Otherwise I would not really worry.

Thanks Mr XXXXXXX He is feeling better now. Fevago was given only two days & second it was given only twice in morning & evening. Nasal drops are given as prescribed by Doctor. But he is getting irritate some times & start crying. we take him little out of the room in open he is fine. Kindly suggest is there anything to be worried or its normal for kids.
