Posted on Tue, 2 Aug 2016
Question: My husband (age 66) suddenly devloped pain in his left jaw last night. He is in excellent health. He describes the pain as dull and moderate, and says it hurts more when chewing and yawning. What could this be, and what should he do about it? Thank you.

Brief Answer:
It could be Musculoskeletal pain.

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Pain in the jaw area could be due to Musculoskeletal cause. I prescribe skeletal muscle relaxant tablet containing Thiocolchicoside 4mg twice daily for 5 days initially. If there is no response, infection of the adjacent area should be ruled out.
If infection is present, Antibiotic like Clindamycin 300mg tablet thrice daily for 5 days along with anti inflammatory tablet to be given. I prescribe the same to my patients with infection of the jaw area.
Please consult your doctor, get examined clinically and get appropriate prescription.
Nothing to worry.
Hope I answered your query. If you have any questions, I will clarify further.
Wish you good health.
Regards
