Question: My son is 20 days old. since yesterday he is not able to take a sound sleep & is crying frequently. Over the phone, my neonatologist advised that it is colic....& suggested colicaid drops. Please advise whether drops are fine & is there anything I can do to prevent this?

Brief Answer:
yes it is fine. Will settle soon

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Yes from your description and given the age the most common cause is colic pain.
This may last for a few months, usually causing sudden abdominal pain in the evenings. Colic aid drops are appropriate and will decrease the gas and spasm associated withcolic.
I usually prescribe 0.3 ml four times a day before feeds.
Also do ensure proper burping after each feed by putting baby on your shoulder and gently tapping his back for atleast 15 minutes after each feed.
Wishing your baby good health.
Regards
Dr Arun
