What Causes Sudden Loss Of Consciousness And Pulsing Sensation In Groin Area?

default
Posted on Mon, 28 Sep 2015
Question: Good evening. About a month ago I almost blacked out when laughing at movie (funny line in "Three Amigos"...I even thought I might die). I had also been experiencing a pulse in my upper thigh region/groin, and feared I had a femoral aneurysm. Thought the two symptoms could be related. I still haven't had it checked out. The vibrational pulsations in the thigh have stopped. But tonight, less than a month from last (and only other) episode, when playing games with family. I laughed so hard I got light headed again (but not as bad as the last time). Not sure what to make of it. Haven't had blood pressure problems, but haven't checked it recently. I am 52 yr female and a bit overweight. I am also a veterinarian, but unable to diagnose myself on this one :). As soon as I can take time out from my busy practice, I intend to get checked out. Is this (the lightheadedness) some sort of vagal response? Or sign of high blood pressure?

Brief Answer:
Both symptoms related to vasovagal response!

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.

I am so sorry to hear about this headache and the near syncope you experienced in the theater. I have reviewed your information fully and this is suggestive of a vasovagal response and not hypertension. However, I will like that you get evaluated ass it has been a long time since you got evaluated. Aneurysm is a different ball game and pulsations are not often the first symptoms and more so alone. If it were an aneurysms. then it will not go away as aneurysms do not regress spontaneously.

In all, these are more suggestive of vasovagal responses. They are not related to aneurysm. I encourage you to get evaluated as it has been a long time since you did so.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Thanks for using our services and do feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
