What Causes Sudden High BP And High Pulse Rate?

default
Posted on Mon, 29 Jun 2015
Question: 4 nights ago I was working in a nursing home. My normally low BP went to 170 over 96 with a pulse of 170. I was rushed to the hospital. Blood tests and chest x-ray did not show a heart attack. I was sent home without any further testing. I continued and have still aching in my chest. 2 days after the incident I developed a serious rash on my lower left shoulder and really most of the left side of my back of shingles- verified in Urgent Care Center. I am a 48 year old female. I am wondering if shingles can cause heart problems. I am also feeling some numbness over my heart. I did make an appointment with a cardiologist for further testing on Tuesday. Their office is not open the weekend so they are not aware of the shingles yet...

Brief Answer:
NO usually they don't; Postherpetic neuralgia may occur

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank You for contacting HCM. My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query and would try to help you in the best possible way. There is no documented effect of shingles causing heart problem BUT on the other hand shingles does cause "Postherpetic neuralgia". It occurs when damaged nerve fibers send confused and exaggerated messages of pain from your skin to your brain. It usually takes some time to recover from this.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
