Brief Answer:
Muscle cramp likely.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The sudden excruciating pain in the hip on waking up without any history of injury is likely to be due to a muscle spasm. This can be relieved by some passive stretching of the hip, a mild pain killer and a hot compress. In case the pain is persistent then oral muscle relaxant may be necessary.
Sometimes, it can be due to dehydration, muscle fatigue or electrolyte abnormalities. It is better to drink sufficient fluid and also see that your intake of electrolytes (sodium, potassium, magnesium ) is sufficient. You can drink Oralyte for this.
I hope this answers your query.
