What Causes Stiffness And Muscle Pain In Legs And Toes?

Posted on Thu, 8 Jan 2015
Question: In the past month or so I have had leg stiffness sometimes muscle pain in legs and toe cramps, left shoulder pain and now in the last few days I have a lump growing in the upper right hand palm and my vision is getting more blurry sometimes almost double when watching tv and tired. Can it all be related to some mineral or vitamin deficiency? Recent blood work showed a too low TSH so changing synthryoid dosage also glucose was 115 not bad but a tad high.

Brief Answer:
It could be due to vitamin deficiencies

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX,

Welcome to HCM. I have gone through the question and understand your concerns.

These symptoms may be related to vitamin deficiencies- the commonest being vitamin D and B12. Please have a serum 25 hydroxy vitamin D and serum B12 estimated.

Please check your calcium and phosphorus to make sure it is normal. Thyroid surgery can cause hypocalcaemia.
The lump on your hand and double vision needs evaluation.

Hope I have answered your questions. If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you.

What would cause the lump in the hand it's more hard than soft like fatty tumors I've had in the past on my back. Could it be a ganglion cyst that I hear some people get on their wrist. It's not red but is starting to itch a little. Is there a home remedy or over the counter product I might try ...some kind of anti inflammatory. Not related but while I'm thinking of it I also have a light brown odd shaped spot on my other wrist that has recently appeared and has grown it's not raised or dark like some of the severely dsyplastic moles I've had removed can it be and age spot I'm 63 years old

Brief Answer:
It could be a ganglion

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX,

Welcome back.

If the swelling is in line with a ligament ( attachment of muscle) it's a ganglion. Only problem with ganglion is sometimes it can get infected and can be painful.

If it is but related to a ligament it could be a lipoma - fat swelling.

There is no home remedies for this condition. You can either keep it or take it out by a small day care surgery.

The other spots can be age related. But it's always better to see a surgeon and get an opinion

If you have any further queries I will be happy to help you.
