Posted on Mon, 18 Aug 2014
Question: Hi,

My neck has been stiff lately. Now I've noticed that I have a weird gritty sound in my neck when I look up and down. What could be causing this? I visited a chiropractor last week and he said I'm out of alignment but I didn't allow him to do an adjustment. I'm a bit scared that something bad is wrong. please advise. .

Brief Answer:
Normal if not associated with serious symptoms

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for posting
I have gone through your query and understand your concern. The gritty sound as described by is produced by joint and tendon/muscle movement and in early arthritis. These are normal and may occur in some person. They are of Importance if associated with pain, numbness, weakness in upper limb.

Hope this helps and I shall be glad to answer any further query.
Take care.
