What Causes Soreness All Over Body In The Mornings?

default
Posted on Wed, 25 Feb 2015
Question: Every morning when I wake up, my entire body is so sore...aches tremendously. I am 45. Female. I take only thyroid medicine which is 125mg daily. I had my thyroid removed in 2004 (hyperthyroidism). It takes until late afternoon for the aches to end---mostly, but not completely.

Brief Answer:
Thyroid

Detailed Answer:
I am sorry to learn about your medical problem.

When I see someone like you in my practice I order the following in addition to a thorough physical examination :

CBC
CMP
TSH
Free T4
25 hydroxy vitamin D

The above evaluation screens for potential causes of your symptoms, such as
Anemia
Liver or kidney or electrolyte problems
Inadequately treated thyroid
Vitamin D deficiency

For example, I aim for a TSH of 0.5 to 2.5 with the appropriate thyroid dose, with a free T4 close to the higher end of normal. So if this is not the caee, I adjust the dose of synthroid to ensure target levels are achieved and maintained. Once this is accomplished, if the symptoms do not improve then the cause is not thyroid related.
