Question: Im a 55 year old man Im in good general health , but woke up with a sore big toe om y right foot. its black and blue under the nail near the cutical. been like that a few weeks thought I had dropped something on it some time a while back . it hurts when I put pressure down on the tip its not in the jiont . wonder what to do thought it would get better by now . I can see the blak and blue line had moved up as the nail has grown out about a 1/4 inch but it remains black and blue at tne bace of the toe nailand under the cutical. do you think I should have a dr look at it .if its broke is there anything to fix it but time . I wondered about making a hole in the nail at the bruse area to releave pressure .

Brief Answer: Dont punch the hole Detailed Answer: Hi XXXXX I am Dr Mittal, MD Looks like you dropped something on the nail. There must have been some bleeding there that has got collected there. As the nail grows, it will move out. First- dont make the hole in the nail. Its a part of your body, not a piece of food. I think you should definitely have a doctor take a look at it, in case they feel a nail removal is needed. I personally dont think it would be needed. I am also assuming that you dont have and associated medical conditions. Best of luck Dr Mittal
