What Causes Sore Throat, Swollen Glands And Fever After Unprotected Oral Sex?

default
Posted on Fri, 10 Jul 2015
Question: On Saturday the 6th of XXXXXXX i had protected sex, and gave oral sex, also with a condom, which I'm sure didn't break and he never came. That following Tuesday i developed a throat infection, which i frequently get, not so much in the past 3-4 years. The doctor diagnosed it and prescribed antibiotics. Its now Friday the 19th and my sore throat has come back, swollen glands and temp. I'm my own worst enemy and have googled reoccurring throat infections and STI's are a possible cause. What are the chances of me having and STI, I know having a temp and swollen glands is normal for a throat infection, is it a symptom of STI's also?

Brief Answer:
Unlikely to be STI

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for your query.
I understand your concern.
It is very unlikely to be a STI under the circumstances described by you.
STI can occur following unprotected oral sex, but your illness is not related to it.
If your symptoms do not go with the antibiotic you have to think of a viral infection like the EB virus which is the cause of the ' kissing disease'.
Nothing to worry. You would be better soon.
