default
Posted on Thu, 16 Oct 2014
Question: I been going to the bathroom on a daily bases once a day, but every time I have soft stool. I am currently taking omeprazole for acid reflux. I had an endoscopy done, that is when they told me I had gastritis, then I had a colonoscopy, everything came out fine. But I continue with the soft stool. My appetite is good. All my blood test come out well. What should I do?

Brief Answer:
Add fiber to your diet

Detailed Answer:
Hi, thank you for using Healthcare Magic. You might need to bulk up your stools some by adding more fiber to your diet. You might also want to see if a particular food may be causing the soft stool. I am not entirely sure what you mean by soft stool, unless you mean watery like diarrhea. Since your colonoscopy and blood tests are fine, a daily bowel movement, even if it's soft, is generally not an indication of anything serious. Inflammation in the upper tract, like gastritis, might be adding to the soft stool. Hopefully, your medicine should get this under control soon, and your stool should improve.

In the meantime, be sure you are drinking plenty of water and getting a lot of fiber in your diet. Most people don't get enough dietary fiber and need to take supplements such as Metamucil. Fruits, vegetables, and grains often include a lot of fiber, so eat plenty of these. Everything else sounds okay, so not to worry. Just get more fiber and see if that helps.

Hope this answers your query. If you have further questions, I would be happy to answer them.
