What Causes Small Red Spots On Glans?

default
Posted on Mon, 16 Jun 2014
Question: About a year ago I noticed a flat discoloration around my glans that has remained since. A couple months later I noticed a small red spot further around on the glans that has now increased in size to not quite half a centimeter, also flat and reddish. Since then a few more have appeared around the glans that I am concerned will also increase. There is also one spot on foreskin and now a small one midway between glans and tip. What is going on with me and how can I heal? Girlfriend of 3 years is asymptomatic and I have been absolutely faithful.

Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Mr XXXXXXX

I would like to have some more additional information about the lesion and symptoms . It would really be helpful for arriving at right diagnosis and from here things can be planned further based on it
1. Is there any pain or itching associated with the lesion?
2. Is there any discharge from it?
3. Is there any discharge from urethra?
4. Do you have any such lesion in oral cavity?
5. Are you diabetic or on any medication?
6. is there any swelling in groin(node)

So far from the description given so far , it appears to be Balanoposthitis which is inflammation of glans and prepuce. It would also be helpful if you could provide clinical photograph of the lesion.

Awaiting your reply

Take Care

No oral lesions that i can see. No itching but occasional fleeting uncomfortable sensations, no discharge anywhere, never been tested for diabetes but an uncle and other extended family member had it. No medications and no swelling in the groin(node).
How do I submit photo?

Brief Answer:
Balanoposthitis secondary to smegma

Detailed Answer:
Greetings of the day
Dear Mr XXXXXXX

Received your attachments.
Thanks.

Let me first explain you the problem. There is secretions of whitish secretion from sulcus of glans( neck like region of glans where it is attached to body of penis: known as Corona of glans) known as Smegma. This smegma( whitish curd like secretions) on prolonged exposure with glans causes irritation and inflammation of glans . This is known as Balonoposthitis(inflammation of glans and prepuce that is foreskin). Long standing cases there is fungal infection associated with it usually Candida.
The management if following.

1. Hot Seitz bath: To a tub of lukewarm water add handful of common table salt. Sit in it for 15-20 minutes. Pull back the prepuce, clean it thoroughly under water removing the secretions. After that you can have a relaxing shower bath. Do it twice a day
2. After bath: Dry the area with soft towel. Apply a mixture of anti-fungal and steroid. Combination of Clotrimazole(anti-fungal) and Betamethasone ( Steroid: it will reduce the inflammation) may be used. They are usually available over the counter. Continue thrice daily application for 3 weeks.

3. Regular cleaning after urinating: After urinating, regularly pull back the skin wash it with water and clean dry its to remove traces of urine and secretions.

Keeping the area clean & dry followed by application of ointment will take care of things.

Take Care brother.
wishing you great health and success in life.

Best Regards
Deepak
