What Causes Small Black Dot On Left Shin?

default
Posted on Thu, 31 Jul 2014
Question: Hi! How are you? My name isXXXXXX. I am 26 years old. I have a small black dot on my left shin. It is the size of a pin prick. It is flat and not raised. It looks circular and fairly symmetrical. It is very small, but it is black and that makes me nervous about skin cancer. Should I be worried? What could this possibly be?

Brief Answer:
Either a Lentigine or a Mole

Detailed Answer:
Hello and welcome to healthcaremagic

I am Dr. Kakkar. I am fine, thank you. Hope you doing fine too.

I have gone through your query.

Judging from the description it appears to me that it could be either a Lentigine OR a Mole, which are benign lesions. Though I would have wanted to have a look at it, if you can upload a clear digital Image. Moreover, since it is a small, flat, symmetrical, asymptomatic lesion therefore you have nothing to worry about.

Regards

Thank you for your reply and for easingy worried. Yeah it is very small. It almost looks like a hair follicule, but i am very blonde and fair and the spot is new. I tried my best to get a good picture. It is the dot a centimeter or so above my fingernail. Hope the image is clear enough. Again, thank you.

Brief Answer:
Freckles Or Solar Lentigines

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Thanks for the Image. It is not just one but I could see 2-3 similar lesions in the Image.

Anyways, these are just either Freckles Or Solar Lentigines, which are fairly common in blondes. They darken or becomes more obvious on sun exposure. They are benign. You have nothing to worry about.
