What Causes Slightly Elevated Eosinophil Count With Normal Troponin And Vit D Levels?

Posted on Tue, 31 Mar 2015
Question: Hi I am a 51 year old male that had an absolute Eosinophil count of 2.4 identified on a routine test. Currently seeing a hematologist who retested and the count is still 2.5 absolute. All other tests are currently normal including, IgE, Troponin I, CK, Chest x-ray, Vitamin B12 and peripheral smear. Only symptom is night sweats that started in October after foot surgery. Had a repair of the extensor halluces longus tendon that ruptured again in January during trip to Mexico. Have been diagnosed with hypothyroidism and high triglycerides. Current meds are gemfibrozel and levothyroxine. Should I be asking specific questions of my provider to help with my diagnosis.

Brief Answer:
You should search the cause of high eosinophil.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
Your absolute eosinophil count is 2.4 or 2.5. It is slightly high. Your all other tests like troponin, x ray, Ig E, vit b12 are normal. So no need to worry. Your sweating may be due to your thyroid problem. You should continue your thyroid medicine.
Please send me your differential count and peripheral smear examination report. If your eosinophilia remain persistent then we should search the cause.
Allergy, asthma, parasitic infection, hypersensitivity etc can cause high eosinophil count. Antihistaminics or DEC can help help you to reduce the count.
Please send me your total count and differential report so that I can help you further.
Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer.

I couldn't upload the document so copy and paste the results below. The physician is waiting for the results from a tryptase but feels they will be negative. Wants to schedule a bone marrow test. My fear is whether they are going to identify leukemia, lymphoma, cancer or HES.

Brief Answer:
No need to worry about leukemia, lymphoma, cancer

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern.
You have eosinophilia only. Your all other parameters in complete blood count and peripheral smear examination are normal.
So no need to worry about cancer, leukemia, lymphoma. They are searching for the cause of eosinophilia in bone marrow examination. If it is negative then you should search for allergy or hypersensitivity test. No need to big worry. Just be relaxed.
Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer. Thanks for using health care magic. Wish you a very good health.
