What Causes Skipped Heart Beats?
Question: Hello my name is XXXXXXX and I have been having a problem with skipped heart beats for over 10 years. I had it the other night at about 1030 and it lasted until 530 in the morning. I went back to my heart doctor and for the second time in 2 years he did a complete workup on me. I had an Ekg a nuclear stress test an echo cardiogram and I wore the holter mon. for 2 days. I am under a lot of stress due to my wifes Illness .But could there be something that my doctors are missing . my eye doctor said that my eye pupils seem a little large. could that have something to do with this. my blood pressure is good and I don't smoke and I gave up the caffine. I don't know what else to do. I am 59 years old.

Since all your cardiac tests and examinations were normal you shouldn't worry about the skipped beats. In your case the heart skipped beats are related to anxiety and stress.
However, your doctor may have missed other rare causes of premature beats such as acid reflux disease (GERD). If you were my patient I would recommend to do the following examinations:
- abdominal ultrasound
- upper endoscopy
- H. Pylori tests
Moreover, I would recommend to do as follows :
- Eat often and in small portions
- Reduce alcohol, caffeine and energy drinks
- Avoid laying down 3 hours after eating
- Use chamomile tea
- Use antacids (davicson) otc
- Use prilosec Otc
