What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Bronchial Spasms After Missing A Dose Of Xolair Injection?

Question: I received 1 Xolair injection a month for 4 months. I had just started responding with improved breathing test. I was hit with a lung infection which landed me in the hospital. This meant I missed my next injection. I have had increasing shortness of breath, broncho spasms, increased heart rate with minimal activity and extreme weakness post discharge. I am wondering if missing my injection has unleashed a rebound effect of sort. I just saw my Infectious Disease specialist and he didn't have any answers for my current symptoms. My Xolair provider is out of town. My question is " Could I be suffering from missing my injection or is all of my symptoms due to having received xolair?" Since I do tend to be drug sensitive, it is hard for me to sort out.

No, these symptoms are not due to xolair.

Detailed Answer:

I can understand your concern.
Xolair is having omalizumab. It is monoclonal antibody against IgE. It is used in allergic condition.
It can not cause symptoms like you are having.
Missing the dose also can not cause similar symptoms.
You might be having post infectious bronchitis.
So better to get done PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
It will not only diagnose bronchitis but also tell you about severity of the disease. And treatment of bronchitis is based on severity only.
You may need inhaled bronchodilators and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS).
So consult pulmonologist and discuss all these.
