Brief Answer:
Detailed evaluation is needed of pain reappears.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting Healthcaremagic!
I have gone through your query and I can understand your concerns.

Single attack of shooting pain can be ignored.
If you develop this kind of pain again and again, detailed evaluation may be required.
As per your description, the pain seems like vascular in origin. That means the blood supply to your lower limb gradually decreases and their oxygen demand is not met, and this will manifest as sharp pain in the lower leg.

I suggest you to consult a physician in case of repeated attacks.
You have to do a venous doppler first to rule out DVT( deep vein thrombosis), which also present like this.
Get a MR angiogram to assess the blood supply to your leg.
You may require analgesics for pain and vasodialators like cilastazole to improve blood circulation to the leg.
You have to quit smoking at the earliest. This is the most important aspect of treatment.

Hope I have answered your query.
Thanks
Dr Shinas Hussain
